6 Scriptures to Help You Through School

Updated: Aug 28, 2019

By now, most of us have returned to school. The endless, summer days with melting icecream and rugged volleyballs have turned into high pitched school bells and smooth surfaced desks. And while summer may have been a careless pool of paradise, school on the other hand can often come with many problems that drain us mentally and emotionally. In the moment of chaos, these problems can become overbearing and pour out ailments of depression, anxiety, or discouragement that begin to cripple everything we do.

Fortunately, there is hope. As Christians we have a God that will never leave us in the time of chaos and who advises us on how to be victorious over these situations. The key to victory isn't hidden; it's written in plain sight through Word of God. And since you're probably busy with homework, here are 6 scriptures to help you throughout the school year already listed out!:

Will I be successful?

"Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart" Psalm 37: 4

Elementary, middle/ high school, and university students all have the same thing in common: grades. Whether you're an AP physics student or a determined athlete trying to get a scholarship, grades will always be anchors weighing over our lives as long as we stay in school. (And sometimes even beyond that!) Long story short, everyone wants a great GPA. But, that's not always easy or possible. Despite this, God knows the desires of your heart and hears your cries of wanting to be on the honor roll or to pass that geometry test. If you can push yourself to take one step, He will take a thousand as long as you keep your faith and continue to work hard. Even if you still fail countless times, remember it was never promised to us that we could have instant victory without a fight. That fight of studying, training, and working nonstop coupled with faith will lead you to your success.

Stressin' Out

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" Philippians 4:6

Worrying over presenting in front of the class or being the new kid on campus will only give you 3 things: a headache, wrinkles, and no solution! Give your problem to God and sleep peacefully knowing whatever you're going through is for you to become stronger and that Jesus is never far behind you.

Lack of Motivation

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint" Isaiah 40:31

Lack of motivation can sneak in anytime. Towards the end of the year, it's common to get drained and not want to do any more assignments. Or maybe, hundreds of attempts to understand a concept just won't kick in no matter how much effort you put into learning it. Yet, Jesus urges us all to keep pushing forward in life no matter what. Your energy in your efforts will be restored and you will be able to climb over that mountain of no motivation to do many outstanding things.

Confusion Beyond Belief

"For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints" 1 Corinthians 14:33

Confusion doesn't come from Jesus. It comes from trying to handle everything on our own without His input. Take some time to relax during the school year and hear what God has to say. The divine plans He has for you are going to be a lot cooler than what you have in mind anyways!

Bullies, Peer Pressure, & Bad Teachers

"I, I am He who comforts you; why then are you afraid of a mere mortal who must die, a human being who fades like grass?" Isaiah 51:12

Bullying is scary. Peer pressure can make you feel alone, and mean teachers make school a nightmare. But there's no need to dwell on negative people who prey upon your happiness. God is bigger than any problem and any person. Replace fear of others with confidence to speak up for yourself and peace knowing you don't have to be afraid of anyone on this earth because Jesus said so. (Except maybe your mom with a belt!)

Strut That Pretty Smile

"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones" Proverbs 17: 22

It's the easiest thing in the world to get caught up in gossiping, making fun of others, or getting in fights from drama. All the negativity from cliques or teachers can end up giving you a spirit of hatred and annoyance for your peers. Hold on to that wholesome. forgiving spirit! Learn to look over the negatives and tie inner joy to your heart. If you allow the negativity to launch into your soul, going to school will be the hardest thing you do from desiring to be absent every day. Keeping a smile goes along way not only for the spirit but in pleasing God.

I hope that these 6 scriptures help make your school year more mentally and emotionally peaceful for you!
